Fit for ageing: applying design to the production of age-friendly places (October 2016)

The Fit for ageing workshop and dissemination event was devised to share DWELL research with project stakeholders and participants alongside academics and practitioners involved in developing age-friendly places. The event was co-organised with the Housing LIN and held at the Millennium Galleries in Sheffield.

The workshop provided an opportunity for a range of professionals and older residents to explore how creative design-led thinking can be applied to age-friendly places – with the aim of developing new visions for our towns and cities and joining up diverse resources at time of shrinking budgets.

Working together in groups, workshop delegates tackled a series of real-world scenarios drawn from DWELL research findings. These scenarios included the impact of cuts to local services (library, buses, WCs) on the older population, competition for housing sites from student developers, and the politics of neighbourhood planning.
